Internet to run out of addresses by 2010

ad ... 336 x 280

We will run out of internet addresses by 2010 as the 4.3 billion addresses available on the present network is extinguishing fast with only about 500 million separate addresses left. This situation is being viewed in two ways around the world – challenge and crisis.

Some plans have been proposed already. The most likely is that - All internet users will have to upgrade to IP v.6 platform. This will provide 340 trillion trillion trillion addresses. "IPv6 provides more addresses in cyberspace than there are grains of sands on the world's beaches," said Viviane Reding, EU Commissioner for the Information Society.

This will not only avoid the current situation but also provide huge cushion for the future as billions and trillions of new users and many more networking devices like sensor devices etc will be easily served.
